PEORIA – Darcella Leihokualoha (See) Peterson, 67, of Peoria, passed away on December 16 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
She was born in Honolulu, HI., on June 2, 1953, to Thomas Nainoa Chong See, Jr, and Tomiko (Arakaki) See. Darcy graduated from Kalani High School in 1971 and attended the University of Washington, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany. While there, she met Stephen W. Peterson, originally of Langley, Washington, and they were married in Seattle on January 6, 1979. He survives her. She is also survived by her two children, Lindy Peterson and Zachary Peterson, both of Peoria. Also surviving are her mother, three sisters, a brother, two aunts, an uncle, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Darcy, also known as Hoku to her family, believed in the spirit of aloha that she learned growing up in Hawaii. She was a generous, hard worker who devoted her life to raising her children and supporting her entire family. She volunteered in numerous areas at her church and was always willing to lend a hand. She had recently been able to travel with her husband following his retirement, including to Iceland, Egypt, and Peru. She had visited all six permanently inhabited continents. Hoku also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and, of course, Hawaii.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and she will be laid to rest on Oahu at a later date. Details of a memorial service will follow.
