Darlene J. (Strube) Reed-Cornish, 89, of Dunlap, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Carle Health Methodist in Peoria, IL.
She was born March 5, 1935, in Chicago, IL to Henry J. And Ida (Mitzelfelt) Strube. The only daughter of 8 children. She was preceded in death by six brothers.
She married George W. Reed on January 3, 1953. They had three children: Vicki (Paul) Grohsmeyer of Groveland, FL, Danny (Stacey) Reed of Mossville, IL, and Kandy (Greg) Reed-Moretto of Crystal River, FL. She has six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; and one brother Chuck Strube of St. Cloud, FL. She later married Edward Cornish July 5, 1994, and he passed away on February 26, 2013.
For fifteen years, Darlene embraced the role of homemaker, providing a warm and loving environment for her children to grow and flourish. Her home was a haven of kindness and support, and she took great pride in her family's accomplishments and happiness.
Her tenacious spirit and strong work ethic marked Darlene's professional journey. She spent a decade at Strube & Sons Auto Repair, the family business, where she was not only an employee but the heart and soul of the operation.
Following her father's retirement, Darlene embarked on a new chapter of her career with the state of Illinois Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer until her retirement in 1999.
At Darlene's request, cremation rites will be accorded. While there will be no public services, her family will privately celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4019 N. Knoxville Ave, Peoria, IL 61614.
