Edward Counsil II

Edward Counsil II, 86, of Dunlap, IL a kind, friendly, and generous man, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2023, at Carle Health Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL. He was born on July 20, 1936, in Lock Haven, PA, the son of Lenz and Arlene Stover Counsil.  He married Kathryn Bontjes on June 16, 1963, in Peoria and she passed away in 2017.

Edward was a devoted family man, and he is survived by his two sons, Ed (Sara) Counsil III of Dunlap, IL, and Lenz (Tracy) Counsil of Woodridge, IL. He was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren, Eddie, Zoie, Sierra, Elwood, Zachary, and Madeline, who will remember him for his warmth and the wisdom he imparted. Edward also leaves behind two sisters, Patricia Goodrich of Michigan and Susanna Counsil of Lock Haven, PA, along with two nieces and two nephews. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving his country from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1958. His commitment to service was a testament to his character, and it was a trait that he carried with him throughout his life. After his military service, Edward embarked on a successful career as a Civil Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation. His dedication and hard work led to a rewarding career that spanned over four decades, culminating in his retirement in 1997.

At the request of Ed, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, 8630 North Illinois Route 91, Peoria, IL 61615. Affordable Funeral & Cremation Services of Central Illinois Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
