George Margetis, 84, of Peoria, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 27, 2021.
He was born on August 27, 1936 in Galesburg, IL to Gus and Bessie Margetis. He married Carol Brouwers on August 24, 1960; she survives.
He is survived by one daughter, Kim (Bill) Adkins of Peoria, one son, Scott (Julie) Margetis of East Peoria. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Ashley (Jason) Schoen of Peoria Heights, Ryan Adkins of Chicago, Casie (Ian) McDowell of East Peoria, Cody Margetis of East Peoria, and five great-grandchildren. Further surviving are one brother, Pete (Mary Jo) Margetis of Peoria, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. One sister Pennie Grimm preceded him in death.
George served in the U.S. Air Force. He was in business with his parents operating the Central Restaurant, and later, the Pantry Restaurant. George joined the Peoria Police Department, serving over 30 years until retiring in 2001. He then was a courier for South Side Bank. George was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed his family, friends, golfing and traveling.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private graveside services will be held Monday, April 5, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.
