Larry Dean Reeder Sr., 74, of Creve Coeur, IL passed away Friday, December 3, 2021, at his home surrounded by close family.
On October 20, 1947, he was born in Peoria to Richard & Dorothy (Tharll) Reeder.
Surviving is his wife Bonnie Reeder of Creve Coeur, his sons, Larry (Stefani) Reeder Jr. of Norwood, Mike Reeder of Norwood, Spencer (Taylor) Fiers of Creve Coeur, five brothers, Richard “JR” Reeder of Bradenton FL, Donald Reeder of Kickapoo IL, Kenneth (Diana) Reeder of Bradenton FL, Gerald (Loretta) Reeder of Versailles KY, Ronald Reeder of Pekin IL, and three sisters, Marilyn (Larry) Hoskins of Peoria IL, Patricia (Jim) Reay of East Peoria IL and Carol (Colette) Grammer of East Peoria IL. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, one brother James & one sister Sharon.
Larry was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was retired from Ironworkers Local Union 112, where he earned his nicknames “Big Iron” & “Walking Hunk of Production” from his fellow co-workers. Larry loved camping, fishing & especially dirt track racing. He had his hand in close to 200 wins on local dirt tracks with family-Reeder Bros. Racing teams. He was the 2000 NASCAR weekly racing series Mechanic of the Year & was inducted into the Peoria Oldtimers Racing Club-Hall of Fame in 2000. Larry had a lot of nicknames, "The Man," "SR," "EEEZ," "slow pockets," & each one made him smile. He always said, “you might not like me, but you'll never forget me," & he sure was right about that! With the huge amount of support not just in life but also in death, you are still THE MAN, MAC OVER!
Graveside services will be held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria at 11:00 am Saturday, December 11, 2021, where military rites will be provided. PastorMike DeTrempe will officiate. A time to celebrate Larry’s life will be held at Timberlake Club of Peoria, 5501 W. Farmington Rd at 1:00 pm following services. All friends & family are welcome to join us.
