Margaret Matzke Obituary

Margaret D. Matzke, 65, of Mapleton, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 4, 2021, surrounded by her family. On April 22, 1956, she was born to Fred and Edith (Citta) Dickinson, who preceded her in death. She married Daniel P. Matzke in Peoria, IL, on March 5, 1988; he survives.

She is also survived by her three children, Christopher (Christi) Matzke, Matthew Matzke and Michelle Matzke; her four grandchildren Abbie Ackers, Ayden Ackers, Mace Matzke and Miller Matzke. Also, surviving are two sisters, Aimee Green and Kim (Lee) Murray, and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret (Meg) loved her garden and could often be found working in her flower beds, pond, or enjoying her garden visitors. Meg enjoyed reading books, crafting, and completing puzzles when she was not gardening. She was also an animal lover and volunteered her time during her retirement at SAMS Rescue in Hanna City, IL. Meg enjoyed traveling and often looked forward to annual winter trips with her husband and Ag-Land FS. Many of their trips included places such as Mexico, Jamaica, The Bahamas, and her personal favorite, Hawaii.

As a young girl, Meg's family moved to Geneva, Switzerland, followed by Hong Kong, before returning to Peoria to attend Richwoods High School. She attended Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois State University, where she majored in Biology. After completing college, Meg worked at Prairie Farms Dairy grading milk in the lab. She eventually switched careers to become a broker’s assistant at Wells Fargo Advisors, formally known as A.G. Edwards, retiring in 2018.  Meg will be deeply missed by her friends and family.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
