Our darling boy, Matthew James Roberts, died at the age of 23 years and 26 days on October 31, 2021.
He was born in Peoria, IL, to Kimberly Lakin Roberts on October 5, 1998. She survives along with his younger sister. Also surviving are maternal grandparents Richard and Linda Lakin, friend, mentor, and great aunt Lisa, and many other relatives and friends far and wide.
He loved the outdoors, exploring nature in any weather. And most of all, he loved reading, especially SCI-fi, and then discussing and arguing theories and probabilities with mom and Aunt Lisa. He also had an obsession with Magic the Gathering and D.&D., playing these games into the wee hours of the night with like-minded friends.
He was a lost soul, who by his own account, was stricken with mental health problems at an early age, which skewed his perceptions on many things. He fought a valiant fight, despite the many doctors he saw and medications prescribed to him.
His heartbroken family will continue to fight for him and others with this disease. It should be taken seriously as ANY chronic illness because it DOESN'T GO AWAY. You don't just "snap" out of It! Pay attention; this is nothing to be ashamed of. Help is available. Please contact N.A.M.I. (National Alliance on Mental Illness) @ 309-693-0541 or the National Suicide Prevention Hotline @ 800-273-TALK (8255). Memorials in Matthew's name may be given through www.namitri-Countyillinois.org. He will be laid to rest in a small family gathering on Saturday, November 13, 2021. To share a memory about Matthew or send a condolence to his family, visit www.peoriafuneral.com.
