Richard Hallstrom Obituary

Richard J "Dick" Hallstrom, Age 82, of East Peoria, IL, Passed away at home Friday, February 10, 2023. He was born on December 6, 1940, in Galesburg, IL, the son of Elmer and Winnifred Hallstrom. 

Dick was raised in Galesburg and attended Galesburg High School. He Married Carolyn Griffin on November 6, 1987, at the Grace Church Anglican in Galesburg.

Surviving are one daughter, Susan A (Rocky) Ponce of Galesburg; two sons, Michael J. Hallstrom of Galesburg and James L. Hallstrom of Monmouth, IL; One grandson Justin M (Jessica) Taylor of Kirkwood and one great-grandson, Ethan H. Taylor. Dick is also survived by one brother, Rodney Hallstrom. His parents, great-grandson Timothy M. Taylor, and one brother Wayne Hallstrom all preceded him in death.

Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy enlisting on March 31, 1965, and was honorably discharged on March 21, 1969. During his service, he received the National Defense Service Metal "Sailor of the month" (January 1966) and (September 1968), Vietnam Service Metal (2 Bronze Stars), Citation for Performance of Duty while serving on the coast of Vietnam. 

After his return from the military, Dick was the owner and operator of Dick's Electric for many years in Galesburg. He then worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria until retirement.

After 35 years of marriage, Dick and his wife Carolyn entered Heaven together. At their request, cremation will be accorded. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Oak Lawn Memory Gardens in Galesburg, with military honors rendered by the U.S. Navy.
