Richard L. Stambaugh

Richard L. Stambaugh, 76, of Peoria passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2023, in Peoria.  He was born on April 30, 1947, in Peoria the son of Clarence and Vina Stambaugh.

Surviving are one son Dan (Billie Jo) Stambaugh and one daughter Glenda Belfield all of Peoria.  Also surviving are five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  His parents, and three brothers Norman, William and Phil, all preceded him in death.

Richard's professional life was characterized by his tenure at Caterpillar, where he worked as an assembler until 1972. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated worker who brought a sense of joy and camaraderie to the workplace. His athletic prowess was also notable, as he held the track record at Manual High School in the 100-yard dash for several years. This achievement was a testament to his determination and competitive spirit.

In addition to his work and athletic accomplishments, Richard was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. He served during the Vietnam era, stationed in Germany. His service was a reflection of his deep love for his country.

Outside of work and service, Richard was an avid collector of vinyl records and books. His collection was a source of great pride and joy, reflecting his diverse interests and his appreciation for music and literature. He also had a great love for comedy movies, his laughter was infectious and could light up any room.

Richard will be remembered as a funny, spirited, and generous individual. His life was marked by hard work, service, and a love for the simple joys of life. His memory will continue to inspire and bring joy to all who knew him.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A time to celebrate his life will be Saturday, October 7, 2023, from noon until 4:00 pm at Dans Tow Bar, 1923 SW Adams St. in Peoria. Burial of his remains will be at a later date at Vermont Cemetery in Vermont, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial in his name may be given to the Disabled American Veterans.
