Ronald Gasper Obituary

Ronald A. Gasper, 72, of Chillicothe passed away peacefully 8:09am, Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL

He was born August31, 1946 in Berwyn, IL son of Clarence and Anne Ryba Gasper.  Ron is survived by his wife Judi of 41 years, sons Brody (Shelly), Brandon McMahon (Kelly), his brother Rick (Nancy) of Crystal Lake and sister Judy Lydon of Oak Lawn; and 15 adoring nieces and nephews. Ron and Judi have 4 four adorable grandchildren whom are often missed as they lived some miles away. Ron lost his sister Sandy last year, whom he was so close to. Ron is being dearly missed by cat Gracie Ann who was also so close to him.

Ron was a school bus driver for First Student, and drove students to Hinsdale South High School for several years. Ron became very close to some of them, enjoying talking about anything or simply laughing with them. He always wanted to make them feel comfortable before their stressful testing. When he retired and moved, many cards were received from students. Upon moving to Chillicothe, Ill., the closeness between his sister-in-law Christy and her husband Duane Johnson became even closer. So much laughter and story telling. Judi and Ron fell in love with Chillicothe, especially the pub "Lucky Dog" where they met Abby who worked there. She brought a light of joy and love to all who were in her presence, and Ron enjoyed kidding back and forth with her.

A special thanks to Abby and her mom Mary. And also to Bob Howell of IVC in Chillicothe who stood by Ron with a job offer after he recovered from his heart surgery. Ron also loved to go to Happy Thoughts Cafe for meals, enjoyed all the ladies who worked there and loved watching the young children gaze over the yummy baked treats offered. Thank you Jenny and Sarah. Ron and Judi also loved walking to Pearce Community Center to watch young Logan play basketball and talk with dad Brock, grandfathers Ed and Duane; while mom Karen sat with little Evan on the benches with Christy and Judi.

After Ron's heart surgery, he suffered a stroke and was moved to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Towards the end of his life, the doctors suggested to Judi that she lay beside Ron in his bed. Judi had wanted to do this all along. With her head on his shoulder, her hand on his chest and talking to him softly, he gave his last breath and passed onto Heaven. A very special thank you to all the OSF doctors, nurses and caring support for their kindness, compassion and loving care.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Cards of condolences can be sent to their home in 1016 N. Finney St., Chillicothe, IL 61523.
