Sandra Childs

Sandra Colleen Childs, 75, of Peoria, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her two children at Accolade Healthcare of Peoria on October 16, 2022, at 9:30 PM.

Sandy, as she was affectionately known for many years, was born and raised on the family farm on October 5, 1947, in Traer, Iowa. She was the 5th child out of six children. After graduating high school from Tama County High in Iowa, she moved to Cedar Rapids to work at Collins Radio.

In 1968, Sandy met and married Joseph H. Petit and moved to Morton, Illinois, in 1970. During their marriage, they had two children, Stephanie Lynn and David Matthew. Married for nine years and a subsequent divorce to follow, Sandy would go back to her maiden name of Childs.

For many years, Sandy worked as a dental assistant for Robert M. Pollard, DDS, and then as a floral designer for Kroger.

Her parents, three brothers, and two sisters preceded Sandra in death.

Surviving are Sandra's two children, Stephanie (Petit) Wills of Houston, Texas, and David Petit of Parma, Ohio, one grandson, Adam Wills of Houston, along with grand – fur – kids of cats and dogs.

Including her two children and grandson, Sandra has two favorite nephews, Jason Childs and Justin Childs, both from Traer, Iowa, who still run the family farm where Sandra was born and raised.

Sandra was a charismatic and creative person with a caring presence and a sense of humor for those who knew her best. Sandra will be known for playing jokes on unwilling participants, telling stories, and being the life – of – the – party.

A celebration of Sandy's life will be disclosed at a later date, to which her children will arrange and send announcements accordingly.

Cremation rites have been given. Stephanie, David, and Adam would like to express heartfelt gratitude towards the staff that truly showed love and caring support at OSF Hospice and Accolade Healthcare of Peoria.
