Shirley Ann (Jones) Lewis

Shirley Ann (Jones) Lewis, 89, slipped away to heaven on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. She resided at Cornerstone Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Peoria Heights for the last six years. 

She was born in Peoria on Sunday, May 7, 1933, to Gladys (Lindee) and Harold Jones. She married Richard Lewis on Saturday, January 24, 1953. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage when he passed away in 1999. 

Surviving is one son, Rick (Denise, deceased 3/12/22), two grandsons, Blake (Misty) and Brett (Liz), and a great-grandson, Christian Lewis. In addition, she had many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews. Brothers Tom and Ralph Jones preceded her in death.

Shirley worked various jobs over the years, including at Bell Telephone as a security guard. She and her husband Dick were also long-time daycare providers for two special girls, Lindsay and Stephanie Van Antwert.

During the later years of her life, she had an increasing need for help. She was blessed to have her sister-in-law, Marty Lewis, and nephew, Larry Jones, step forward to assist. When they were no longer able, nieces Abbie McQuarrie and Cheri Mayer continued to provide immeasurable help, love, and support over her life's final decades. With them, she had a close and special relationship.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Parkview Cemetery in the "Garden of Freedom" in Peoria.
